INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME
Background of ICT program
In the year of 1999 Green Network, in collaboration with the Institution
of Natural Resources, initiated a project known as the “Msunduzi Community
Information Communication and Technology". This initiative was funded by the
International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The project was a pilot
project and it has produced lessons that enable the Green Network to now roll out
the project in a sustainable manner.

Green Network started, and INR initiated, this project with an aim of narrowing a
widening gap between the poor and rich communities and the community that has
access to ICT and that which does not have an access. With this in mind
Green Network is embarking on a campaign to close this gap by connecting
and networking fifty community based organisations by 2013.
Objectives
- To conduct a publicity and information campaign to build capacity in ICT
- To train communities to access and use electronic information system
- To establish an electronic information system
What we have done

- The criteria have been developed to accept and screen the organisations and thir participants into the project;
- A Training institution was identified as the service provider ( Sivelele IT Solutions). Sivelele, together with Green Network, developed an isiZulu manual to facilitate the use of the computer.
- We distributed five computers to trained organisations, including furniture
such as desks, chairs and filing cabinets. The project enjoyed press
